Breast Cancer Awareness
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast cancer is cancer that forms in tissues of the breast - most commonly the ducts and lobules. It can affect women as well as men. It's the second most common type of cancer in American women.
Did you know that there have been an estimated 230,480 female and 2,140 male new cases this year?
Did you know that there were 39,520 female and 450 male deaths this year? While this number isn't as high as in previous years, it is still quite alarming.
Avoiding risk factors such as:
-alcohol consumption
-obesity
-smoking
may help prevent cancer. There are other things that can decrease your risk of breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute:
-Exercise four or more times per week
-Reduced estrogen exposure
-Prophylactic surgery (mastectomy or oophorectomy) in certain high risk women
-Preventive medication in certain high risk women
-Self checks and mammograms
Also, Keep your spines and nervous systems healthy and get regular spinal chech-ups by a chiropractor
can be helpful in detecting breast cancer early, reducing the chance of dying from the disease.
