Chiropractors See a Lot of Sunburns!
Ok, I look at backs all day long and I have to say after the 4th of July holiday weekend the doctors and I have seen a tremendous number of them sunburned!
Getting a sunburn can be very harmful to your skin. Especially children’s skin! One sunburn can cause a lifetime risk of skin cancer and the possibility of melanoma. Sunscreen, clothing and shade are some effective ways to prevent sunburns. If you happen to forget here are some actions needed to take away pain and maybe some of the damage.
Act Quickly
If you see your or your child’s skin reddening , get out of the sun and start treatment on the burn.
Moisturize
Take a cool shower and slather moisturizing cream or lotion on the burn. Make sure to repeat frequently to make peeling less severe.
Hydrate
Drink extra water! Burns draw fluid to the skin surface and away from the body. Make sure you watch for dehydration signs like dry mouth, thirst, headache, dizziness, and sleepiness.
Assess the Damage
Most sunburns can be treated at home, but if the burn covers more than 20% of your body, seek medical attention as soon as possible.
