BIG NEWS COMING BACK FROM LAS VEGAS!
It's hard to believe that the first month of 2011 will be over by the time you read this. How are you doing on your goals for 2011 so far? I hope you have the right action steps in place to ensure that you live happy and healthy.
As most of you know, the team here at Four Points Family Chiropractic attended the largest annual Chiropractic gathering in the world in Las Vegas in January. Almost 10,000 doctors from all over the world were in attendance to see and hear the most recent research and breakthroughs in healthcare. And yes, there are many changes on the way that is going to blow you away. It is going to change the way you approach your health, your family's health, and anyone you care about. Here are some of the bombs that were dropped on us at this seminar that literally made all of us fall off our seats:
80% of the working force in America is diagnosed with a chronic illness (mostly Heart Disease, Type II Diabetes and Cancer).
55% of the working force in America is diagnosed with two chronic illnesses.
By 2017 chronic illness will cost 4.3 trillion dollars per year in the U.S. alone.
That represents 12 billion per day, $500 million per hour, and over million 8 million dollars per minute- EVERY DAY!
In 1970 there was 2 billion pills prescribed, in 2007 113 billion pills were prescribed, and we are and are children are sicker than ever.
There are 4 pharmaceutical lobbyists for every congressman/woman in Washington.
Children born today will have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. First time this will happen in human existence.
In 2040, 1 out of 3 Americans will have diabetes.
50% of ER heart attacks patients have normal cholesterol. Due Statin drugs prevent heart attacks?
The one thing we have not considered in mainstream healthcare is lifestyle (or environment). For example: A forty year old male patient walks in a medical doctors office and is told his blood panel shows his cholesterol is 260, normal is 200. So he is prescribed a cholesterol lowering drug and is told to come back in 3 months to get it tested again to see if returns within normal range. This happens thousands of times in America every day. Here is the problem: the fact that he is 40lbs overweight was never addressed, never asked what his diet was like, how much exercise he does, if there is any stress in his life at home or work. Giving him a drug so a number on a test is within normal range doesn't make him healthier if his lifestyle isn't addressed. Now he is trapped in big pharma paradigm of treating effects and not cause.
The fact is that the single greatest determinant of weather you will get sick or get and stay well IS YOUR LIFESTYLE CHOICES. This is an INDISPUTABLE FACT. The solution is not going to be how many more prescription drugs we need to be on. How many more surgeries we need. The solution is simple. We need more healthy people and less sick people. The only way this is going to happen if more people adopt lifestyle behaviors that are genetically congruent, that promote the genetic expression of health, and prevent the genetic expression of unsustainable adaptation, fatigue, and illness. That means everyone needs strategies to eat well, think well, and move well. See why everyone needs a "Health Coach" on their healthcare team?!
The current system is not working. We don't need more debate about who should pay for healthcare; we need to start debating about what kind of healthcare we should pay for.
Let's all make 2011 better than 2010 much better. Better yet, let's make it the best year EVER for you and your loved ones!

Dr. Ross Coccimiglio
